These drawings establish their own serial logic outside of language. Rather than making images of preconceived ideas, I am building an abstract, suggestive system of forms to visually explore queer feelings and sexuality. I am interested in the immediate, visceral response to images that precedes the rational analysis of visual strategies or art-historical references. The term “paraphilia” was coined by the psychoanalyst Wilhelm Stekel around 1925 from the Greek para- "beside, aside" + philos "loving" to describe “a pattern of recurring sexually arousing mental imagery or behavior that involves unusual and especially socially unacceptable sexual practices (as sadism or pedophilia).” (Merriam-Webster’s Dictionary)
